OUR HISTORY

Our story starts circa 1955 when Bus Southworth established a logging and land clearing business on South Hill, in Puyallup, Washington.

By 1964 Bus had such a demand for his work that he enlisted the help of his two sons, Norm and Mel and they formed a partnership.  With contracts from various saw mills they earned a reputation for being pioneers on some of the most challenging road construction projects in the Cascade Mountains.   Their early clients included Manke Lumber, Weyerhauser, Boise Cascade, St. Regis, St. Paul, and Cheney Lumber to name a few.

In 1979, due to their success, the partners incorporated, moved their shop to Greenwater where it is today, and continued their work in the timber industry including working directly for the USDA Forest Service establishing miles of roads, installing culverts and bridges in the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie and Gifford Pinchot National Forests.

In the mid-1980’s the timber industry started to change and the company began other endeavors including our first major private development contract at Crystal Mountain Ski Resort as well as our first major utility project installing a sewage treatment facility for the Army Corps of Engineers.

By the early 1990's Mel and his wife Rose owned and managed the company.  The 90's brought another first for our company when we began the construction and maintenance of rearing ponds for fish.   This opened up the environmental fish habitat work that we still do today.

Our latest first is a project that we recently did for Pierce County, constructing a Bio-Retention System for stormwater management, which at the time was the second such system in the state.

We are still a family run business with sons Marty and John helping manage projects as we continue to offer services in forestry, civil heavy construction, and environmental mitigation and enhancement with decades of experience and a long list of satisfied clients, both public and private.
